CALENDAR OF EVENTS - APRIL 2012

6TH APRIL – FULL MOON - PURNAMA KADASA
The full moon (which has particular importance to the Balinese Hindus) falls on this day and ceremonies are held throughout the Hindu temples all across Bali. The Balinese that adhere to the Hindu Dharma religion will take offerings of food, fruit and flowers to the temple to be blesses by the priest. The Balinese themselves are then blessed by performing various rituals using holy water, incense smoke, petals and rice grains.


6TH APRIL – NATIONAL HOLIDAY – GOOD FRIDAY
This Christian religious holiday precedes Easter Sunday. Please note that all banks and government offices will be closed today.


7-8TH APRIL - BALI JUNIOR GOLF COMMUNITY SEVE BALLESTEROS FOUNDATION CHALLENGE
Bali Junior Golf Community together with Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club is joining an initiative with Spain to raise funds for The Seve Ballesteros Foundation in support of cancer research. The event in Bali is part of a initiative in Spain which will see thousands of golfers at golf clubs raise money for Seve's Foundation, which funds research into brain cancer. Golfers at Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club will tee off in their bid not only to raise money for charity, but also to try to promote junior golf in Bali as well as the mentor program for juniors which will see a team event for day 1 where 2 adults will be paired with 2 juniors. www.balijuniorgolf.com


8TH APRIL – EASTER SUNDAY
Many restaurants, hotels and businesses around the island will be celebrating today most notably for children with chocolate eggs and Easter egg/bunny hunts.


21ST APRIL – BALINESE BLESSING CEREMONY - HARI TUMPEK KANDANG
Tumpek Kandang Day is dedicated to animals. This Balinese Hindu ceremony is held every 210 days to honour and bless livestock and domesticated animals. The name Tumpek Kandang is derived from two words, 'Tumpek', which means Saturday and 'Kandang' being the Balinese word for cage. This special day honours nature and in particular cows will be washed in the rivers and adorned, pigs will have their bellies washed & wrapped in cloth, as well as being given specially chosen food. The Balinese believe this will bring their livestock and themselves more prosperity. Prayers will be held at the temples across the island.


20TH APRIL – DARK MOON - TILEM KADASA
The Balinese adhering to the Hindu Dharma religion will celebrate 'Tilem' in temple ceremonies, which are mostly held in every major temple and family shrines around the island of Bali. On this day Hindus make offerings to the Gods, placed on the ground at the entrance of each housing compound. The aim is to beg God's grace; so that one's dark thoughts will be illuminated by Him.

22ND APRIL - BII MAYBANK BALI MARATHON 2012
Organised by Bank International Indonesia - BII, the BII Maybank Bali Marathon (BMBM) 2012 is the first international full marathon held in Indonesia in over 20 years. The event will be held on Sunday, 22 April. The race will start and finish near to the Bali Safari and Marine Park featuring a combination of flat road and rolling hills. 

The event will feature Bali's iconic landmarks and traditional dancing all along the course. The Marathon Relay promises to foster both teamwork and strategic planning among a team of five runners completing the Full Marathon in a relay format.
