Curator’s Brief.

Alignment
The human body is a ‘vehicle’ of phenomenal, yet often misunderstood dexterity and intelligence. Its capacity for restoration and renewal often defies the so-called medical experts. Through simple, noninvasive stimulation of the senses our body’s innate abilities to regenerate, and in essence create “new life”, are easily initiated.

The exhibition Alignment presents the work of seven contemporary artists via the mediums of sketching, painting, installation, performance and film.

What defines Alignment from other exhibitions is its intention to communicate beyond the “general aesthetic experience” and to provide insights and explanations as to how the human body and mind interact with art on deeper levels.

Via the visual, audio and energetic “tools” utilized by the artists their works project information that is decoded by the mind and the auric field, and that arouse intelligent responses and induce adjustments within the body’s self regulating systems.

Alignment is an invitation from the artists to audience to increase their awareness and bring greater understanding to what occurs on the conscious, subconscious and metaphysical levels, while engaging with the works of art.

9TH MAY - DARK MOON - TILEM SASIH JIYESTHA
The Balinese adhering to the Hindu Dharma religion will celebrate ‘Tilem’ in temple ceremonies, which are mostly held in every major temple and family shrines around the island of Bali. On this day Hindus make offerings to the Gods, placed on the ground at the entrance of each housing compound. The aim is to beg God’s grace; so that one’s dark thoughts will be illuminated by Him.


11TH MAY - HINDU BLESSING CEREMONY - HARI TUMPEK KRULUT
Tumpek Krulut Day is dedicated to all musical instruments, masks and other instruments used in art performances and the numerous religious ceremonies in Bali. It is celebrated every 210 days, in the 17th week of the Balinese Pawukon cycle (a cycle consisting of 30 weeks). 

On this special day, offerings are given to pay homage to musical instruments, masks, and dance costumes. The instruments and other paraphernalia are cleaned, decorated with young coconut leaf offerings, given a special set of offerings and sprinkled with Holy water. The members of the group that use the instruments pray together and ask for blessings from the Gods.

24TH MAY - FULL MOON - PURNAMA SASIH SADHA
The full moon (which has particular importance to the Balinese Hindus) falls on this day and ceremonies are held throughout the Hindu temples all across Bali. The Balinese that adhere to the Hindu Dharma religion will take offerings of food, fruit and flowers to the temple to be blesses by the priest. The Balinese themselves are then blessed by performing various rituals using holy water, incense smoke, petals and rice grains.

25TH MAY - WESAK DAY - HARI RAYA WAISAK
Wesak Day is celebrated throughout the world to commemorate and honor the birthday of Lord Buddha, the Enlightened One. It is the most auspicious day in the Buddhist calendar, marking the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha and is celebrated as a national holiday throughout Indonesia. Therefore all banks and government offices will be closed on this day, as may some shops and other forms of commerce.

21ST APRIL -HARI KAJENG KLIWON ENYITAN

Tukang Foto Keliling (TFK) “Sederhana tapi Berwawasan”

Beruntung sekali, kali ini saya mendapat kesempatan untuk mengenal dan bergabung dengan keluarga besar Tukang Foto Keliling. Tidak hanya itu, saya juga berkesempatan untuk berbincang-bincang dengan Komandan Tukang Foto Keliling : ,“Nyoman Sujana”, yang akrab disapa “bli Man”,
Menurut penuturan Nyoman Sujana ; “Tukang Foto Keliling adalah komunitas terbuka bagi penyuka seni Fotografi, .TFK bukan hanya sekedar group hoby foto,TFK sudah seperti keluarga.Di keluarga TFK,sharing tentang foto benar-benar terbuka. Tidak ada sesuatu yang dirahasiakan, baik itu tehnik pengambilan foto, sampai cara pengeditan foto.”
Komunitas Fotografi yang tergolong unik ini bermarkas di Pulau Dewata Bali, TFK belum ada basecamp khusus,. Untuk sementara, kantor Nyoman Sujana yang terletak di “Baliwis spa-Nusa Dua” dijadikan sebagai tempat berkumpulnya para anggota TFK.
TFK terbentuk sekitar 7 bulan yang lalu. Berawal dari pertemuan7 orang dengan hoby yang sama, diantaranya : Nyoman Sujana,Yande Zetia,Dewa Enggung Susila,Dayu,Wayan Benny Saputra,Gede Sumanjaya,dan Merta Yasa,, .Dari pertemuan tersebut,Yande Zetia mengusulkan untuk membentuk komunitas fotografi yang bisa dijadikan wadah bagi penyuka seni fotografi,sekaligus sebagai sarana untuk belajar bersama,berbagi ilmu dan menambah wawasan dalam bidang fotografi. Akhirnya mereka sepakat untuk membentuk komunitas fotografi dengan nama “Tukang Foto Keliling (TFK)”.
Disepakatinya nama “Tukang Foto Keliling” sebagai nama komunitas, karena nama tersebut dirasa lebih sederhana, tidak mau egois menamakan diri Fotografi. Nyoman Sujana juga menambahkan ,”sebagian besar keluarga TFK adalah fotografer-fotografer pemula dengan keterbatasan alat. Hampir semua keluarga TFK menggunakan kamera dan lensa yang sederhana, namun keluarga TFK selalu berusaha untuk memberikan hasil yang terbaik, tidak kalah dengan yang menggunakan kamera mahal.”
Tidak hanya memotret model, TFK juga memotret kebudayaan , landscape,even-even,dll. Untuk saat ini, TFK memang lebih sering memotret dengan konsep model dan hunting lokasi.,. Model disini juga sudah menjadi bagian dari keluarga TFK, tidak ada istilah bayar-membayar untuk model. TFK juga sebagai wadah untuk proses belajar. Baik model ataupun fotografer bisa belajar untuk menambah wawasan dan konsep dalam foto. Tidak hanya sekedar memotret dan dipotret tanpa hasil yang tidak bermanfaat.
Sebagai orang yang dipercaya untuk menjadi komandan TFK, Nyoman Sujana berharap, ;untuk kedepannya TFK bisa terus menjadi wadah berbaginya ide dan pengalaman seputar fotografi yang bisa membuat keluarga besar TFK menjadi semakin maju,selalu berkarya dan berusaha mendapatkan hasil yang terbaik tanpa melanggar norma.

Melasti Ceremony is always held three days before Nyepi and is aimed at cleansing all of nature in the ocean, or at other water sources if need be. Expect traffic delays.

11TH MARCH - HARI TAWAR AGUNG KESANGA
This is the day before Nyepi when at dusk the Ogoh-Ogoh parade is held throughout the villages to chase demons away from human life.

12TH MARCH - HARI RAYA NYEPI - BALINESE NEW YEAR 1935
Nyepi is the Balinese New Year’s Day according to the lunar calendar and is honored through a ‘Day of Silence’ of obligatory fasting, inactivity, prayer, and quiet throughout the island lasting for 24 hours. Purification offerings are made in every village on the day before to appease evil spirits, and a lively parade of ‘Ogoh-Ogohs’ (demon effigies) are carried throughout village streets to the sound of loud banging and lit torches to chase off the evil spirits. The noise can carry on throughout the night until morning, when silence reigns in the hope that if the spirits return to Bali, they will find it uninhabited. Restrictions are; no lighting fires, or lights after dark, no working, entertainment or pleasure, little noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity. 27TH & 28TH MARCH - HARI RAYA GALUNGAN & UMANIS GALUNGAN
Galungan is a Balinese holiday that occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. Kuningan is the last day of the holiday (see below). Galungan means ‘When the Dharma is winning’ – Dharma being good over evil. During this holiday the Balinese Gods visit the earth and leave on Kuningan. During the Galungan period the deified ancestors of the family descend to their former homes to be entertained by those on earth. Although Galungan falls on a Wednesday, most Balinese will begin their Galungan ‘holiday’ the day before – on the 26th. ‘Penjors’ can be seen lining the streets to welcome good fortune to those who pass below to enter family homes. On Wednesday the 27th, the day of Galungan, most Balinese will try to return to their own ancestral home at some stage during the day, even if they work on another part of the island. As well as the family temples, visits, with offerings, are also made to the main village temple, and to the homes of other families who may have helped the family in some way over the past six months. The day after Galungan, the 28th, is a time for relaxation; visiting friends and maybe taking the opportunity to head to the mountains or beaches for a picnic.
